Looking for a NEW Coordinating Manager Volunteer

Hello All,

Unfortunately we were unable to continue our collection at the mississagua marathon, and due to my recent enrollment in University I am unable to continue the search for a new marathon to partner with. We are looking for a new volunteer familiar with Shoes for Malawi to take up the project and be the coordinating Volunteer for next spring or fall. If you are interested in running the shoe collection please email me and we can talk about what is involved. We have all the materials you need (list of volunteers, volunteer tshirts, signs etc.) but we need YOU to help coordinate and run the collection.

Please email me at shoes.4malawi@hotmail.com with questions.

Thank you as always for your continuing support,
Julia

We will be looking for a fall marathon to partner with over the summer months so please continue to hold onto your shoes, t-shirts and soap and we will update you as soon as we have further information about our next collection date.

Thank you for your continuing support.

Who we are!

Shoes 4 Malawi is an initiative to send shoes to the impoverished region of
Bangula in Malawi, Africa. The Morrison family, formerly of Oakville, operates a
home in Bangula caring for children orphaned by the AIDS epidemic.

Joanna Morrison writes that kids in Bangula suffer from a lack of shoes in many
ways. Bare feet are the norm, which is a problem during rainy season because of
worms and during dry season because of the burning ground as a result of the
intense sun. Not only this, but kids are regularly stuck with painful thorns as they
walk thorn-infested paths barefoot. A lack of access to proper hygiene and
medical care compounds the problem as infection often follows. Even access to
education is affected – many kids are turned away from high schools without
proper footwear. Suffice it to say, your donation can make a HUGE impact on
someone’s life!

This will be the eighth year for the Shoes 4 Malawi project. The generosity of
the running community has made the project a great success in years past –
last year we were fortunate enough to collect near 3000 pairs of shoes.
We have high hopes that, with your help, we can surpass that number at this
year’s Mississauga Marathon.

We are collecting your “old” training shoes, as well as
children’s running shoes and heavy duty sandals (no flip-flops) –
don’t forget to tie your shoes together and put a
new bar of soap inside if possible! We will also be collecting t-shirts and hats this year as well.

Good luck training and we will let you know very soon where we will be collecting your donations this 2011 spring season.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions at shoes.4malawi@hotmail.com

Quality is sometimes better than Quantity

Hey Guys here is just a quick reminder from the S4M team!

Remember when you are packing up your shoes to bring to a S4M drop off center that these shoes are going to be worn by someone else, more specifically, someone who lives in Africa. Sometimes it is better to have a small donation of shoes in good condition, rather than a large donation of shoes that will not help protect the feet of someone living in Malawi, Africa! So before bringing your donation to us please keep in mind , we are looking for running shoes and heavy sandals that are in Good condition. (and of course, soap, hats and t-shirts as well!)

As always, thank you for your support!

Shoes 4 Malawi 2010

Hello all loved supporters of Shoes 4 Malawi. Check Spelling
Again this year we will be collecting used running shoes, hats, t-shirts and ofcourse new bars of soap, at the Mississagua Marathon. We will be at the expo and the start line as in years past.

For those of you who don't know about our mission here at Shoes 4 Malawi, we collect the above mentioned items for the people of Malawi Africa! It is there we have friends who are missionaries helping give aid to those who need it most. One day when my father and mother were emailing our friends in Africa, they asked what the people of Malawi needed and the answer was shoes! When people have shoes it helps protect their feet from cuts that can easily get infected from improper hygiene or lack of medical care (thats where the soap helps out!). My family being a family of runners, started hanging on to our old pairs of running shoes. (Our old runners were in perfect condition, however the cushioning was gone due to the many miles we had run on them.) We then started asking our runner friends to do the same, to collect their old runners, and to give them to us to ship to Africa. Now it has expanded to the many runners in the GTA involved with the Mississagua Marathon and we are asking you to hang on to your old runners and every year help us help the people of Malawi Africa and donate your runners (and hats, t-shirts and soap).

If you have any questions about the marathon or the expo head to www.mississaguamarathon.com. If you have any questions about Shoes4Malawi look through the posts below or you can always email shoes.4malawi@hotmail.com. You can also check out the website of our missionary friends (The Morrison family) in Africa at http://www.morrisonafrica.com/!

Good luck with your training and we will see you at the expo/start line!
